Convicted Wal-Mart Exec faces lawsuit

You remember former Wal-Mart executive Tom Coughlin don’t you? Poor Tom, he’s spending 27 months under house confinement in his million dollar mansion for stealing millions. Tom must wonder, what’s next? Well, how about another lawsuit?

Robert E. Hey Jr., the former Wal-Mart executive who worked under then-vice chairman Tom Coughlin and was later prosecuted and found guilty of abetting Coughlin in defrauding the company, is suing his former supervisor.
Hey, 42, of Garfield pleaded guilty Nov. 7 in federal court in Fort Smith to three criminal counts of defrauding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. by creating false invoices between March 2001 and October 2001, in an amount exceeding $15,000        more here

It’ll be interesting to watch as these suits grow and work themselves through the civil courts, we may just find out what the real story is. Did Coughlin use the money and gifts as graft for anti-union activities as his defense alleged? That won’t be good for Wal-Mart, and if Coughlin’s activities had the blessings of those further up the food chain, that’ll be worse. It just might explain, why a man who defrauded his employer of millions of dollars got a sweet heart deal, and that deal was brokered for the benefit of Coughlin in Wal-Mart’s back yard. Makes you kinda wonder.
