How the Moral Values Debate Divides America
Tim Russett of Meet the Press has his moments. Below you’ll find Senator John Danforth’s interview about a book he’s written titled: “Faith and Politics: How the Moral Values Debate Divides America and How to Move Forward Together.â€
I haven’t read it, but after reading this interview, I”ll probably pick it up. It’s interesting that Danforth has pegged what many of us “liberals” have said all along. That radical Christianism, fostered and used by the Republican Party as a vote getter has become the great divider in this country.
MR. RUSSERT: You write with real conviction, senator, this is what you say, “When Christians claim special knowledge of God’s truth, when they advance wedge issues, when they divide America between ‘people of faith’ and their ‘enemies,’ Christians become not the means of peace but the cause of conflict. In that case, Christians are far from being powerless. They are powerful contributors to what has gone wrong in American politics.â€

Sen. Danforth speaks for many of us who are sick of these so-called conservatives. Real conservatives do not want government in our private decisions. There is nothing conservative about the religious right.

RWR,
I couldn’t agree more. My hopes and prayers are that more and more of the Danforth’s come out and start talking about the real dangers of “radical Christianism” that has overtaken the Right and how it is undermining our democracy and frankly my faith, the sooner this country can get back on course. Couldn’t happen sooner.
