We are living “just a comma”
Jack Cafferty of CNN happens to be one of my favorite “grumpy old men”, here, he takes exception to President Bush’s ‘just a comma” statement made yesterday while he was being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer.Â
“Well, Mr President-here’s what that comma looks like so far; - 2,700 American’s soldiers….dead - 20,000 American’s seriously wounded…arms and legs blown off…things like that - 100’s of thousands of Iraqi civilians dead…including women and children…
(Do ya think Jack’s a little po’ed?)
Here’s the question and answer that lit Jack Cafferty’s hair on fire.Â
BLITZER: Let’s move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war–if not already a civil war–We see these horrible bodies showing up, tortured, mutilation. The Shia and the Sunni, the Iranians apparently having a negative role. Of course, al Qaeda in Iraq is still operating.
BUSH: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that’s the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there’s also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there’s a strong will for democracy. (emphasis added)
2700 dead American soldiers, 20,000 maimed and wounded, 100’s of thousands of Iraqi dead. And the President of the United States thinks that history will treat this war as “just a commaâ€, a little blip on the radar. Mr. Bush, tell that to the families who have lost their loved ones or those that will never be whole, that they are…just a comma. Tell that to my grandchildren and great grandchildren who will be paying off the debt you’ve accumulated on your Iraqi debacle.
How does this man sleep at night?
