More on the Rogers Immigration Police
The Benton County Daily Record throws some meat at Roger’s Mayor Steve Womack, suggesting he might want to chew on it. “Should Rogers enroll in a program that would train the city’s police officers to enforce federal immigration laws ? The answer is no. We share the worries of many that turning police officers into immigration officers would lead to the under-reporting of crime in the Hispanic community. In fact, we see it as a virtual certainty.”

Let’s not forget racial profiling. Two years ago, the City of Rogers settled a lawsuit for just over 1 million dollars because the police department was just pulling people over due to the color of there skin. Womack, normally a bright guy, better rethink this, racial profile WILL become a financial risk factor for the city of Rogers.

“We’d like to see these people channel their energies more effectively, by getting together and applying heat — from the bottom up — to the senators and representatives in Washington who got us into this mess. But that may require a level of focus and cohesiveness that doesn’t currently exist.”
Now how exactly is that gonna work? NWA has isolated itself because of the their rampant Republicanism. They’ve got John Boozman, now an insignificant minority Congressman. Arkansas has 2 Dem Senators and 3 Dem Congressman - and that entire NWA region, well, they just don’t get it. If NWA wants a voice in anything - state or federal, it better invite the majority party and their representatives in the community to the table. Talk about politically tone deaf.
