“Pay as you go?” ….well almost
Under the leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the house adopted a pay as you go (paygo) rule. No longer will the House pass the bill to future generations. Well, almost….
Defense spending such as the war in Iraq is exempt. You may or may not be aware that the current debt incured to pay for the Iraq war has not been included in the budget deficit figures. While I applaud the “paygo” rule, it is not enough. How can spending 2 billion a week not be included? Is this free money that will never have to be repaid? No, it’s not. So why exempt it?
I guess this limited “paygo” rule beats nothing.
Here in Arkansas we also have a limited “pay as you go system.” While we can’t run budget deficits, the state is in debt for roads, colleges, and many other things. We will continue to pay off the debt of 1990’s road improvements for the next 3 years.Â

It’s a good start but I can’t believe they exempted military spending.
