Gallup: Americans Say They Will Vote for a Black or Woman — But a Mormon? A 72-Year-Old?

Looks like the “bench” for the national Republican Party is as pathetic as it is for the Arkansas Republican Party. Who wins here? Huckabee…for a while. However, once the country is introduced to Wayne DuMond and the Huckster’s tax increase record he will be toast. Now who does that leave? And how does the religious right, who have called the Democrats baby killers, homo lovers…etc, reconcile themselves to Guiliani, Romney or McCain? The Republicans got a real problem. Don’t be surprised if the reluctant Jeb Bush isn’t aggressively drafted by the Republican National Committee - because right now, the religious base of their party hasn’t a candidate that has a prayer of winning in ”08.Americans Less Likely To Support “Mormon Candidate, 72 Year-Old, One Who Has Been Married 3 Times

A  new Gallup survey confirms that Americans claim they will be willing to vote for a woman (read: Hillary Clinton) or a black (read: Barack Obama) for president next year. But they still raise questions about voting for a well-qualified Mormon (Mitt Romney) or 72-year-old (John McCain) or someone who has been divorced twice (Rudy Giuliani).

Surprisingly, nearly as many say they would vote for a homosexual (55%) as say they would vote for a 72-year-old (57%).

Oh George….I’d buy a ticket to the political planning sessions of the republican religious right. Last year Jerry Falwell cried that Rudy wouldn’t do as republican nominee and moments later made reference to doing whatever it takes to “beat Hillary.” What will Uncle Jerry do if it’s Rudy vs. Hillary? Well, we all know….but won’t it be fun to watch Jerry Falwell perform that (political)gymnastics manuever? And how do they put the genie back in the bottle on
comments about Romney’s faith?

Hot dog and cold beer, please.

“What will Uncle Jerry do if it’s Rudy vs. Hillary?”

I suggest that like Reverend Haggard, he will swallow long and deep, find a new faith in a new…well you get the picture.

It obvious to me that the relgious right were used like two-dollar whores. They were given great lip service with no payday for all their support, money and hard work. I also believe that many have come to that same conclusion.

Does anybody think that if Bush hadn’t screwed the right so blatantly and so badly that this country would be looking seriously at a women or a black man as our next President?

The relgious right doesn’t trust the Republicans, working class American’s don’t trust the Republicans and Bubba’s are falling by the way everyday. It’s gonna be brutal for the Republicans in ‘08. I’d bet money on it.
