The Endless War touches Arkansas…AGAIN

The Endless War touches Arkansas…AGAIN.

Say a prayer for our men and women in the Guard and their families.

The Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Infantry Brigade, which has already served one tour in Iraq, has been alerted to prepare for another possible year-long deployment, National Guard officials said Monday.

“I can’t speculate on a timeline when that order will come down, but I can tell you that the project mobilization date” is in fiscal year 2008, said Maj. Gen. William Wofford, the state’s adjutant general.

The federal government’s fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

The 39th, which has about 3,000 soldiers, was mobilized for 18 months, mainly in 2004, and most of the unit served in Iraq. Sixteen soldiers died during the tour.

Some of the troops later served in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and along the border with Mexico helping U.S. border patrols.

Wofford said any mobilization involving the 39th would be limited to one year.
