Pryor takes in more than $1.7 million for 2008 race
With 2 million dollars in the bank the Republicans will be hard pressed to find a candidate to challenge…well there is always Jim Holt. This is a lesson to all potential candidates, raise big money early, which will either eliminate or thin primary challenges, and may well eliminate a challenge from the other side of the isle. I look forward to six more years of Senator Pryor; he has learned some hard lessons and is the Senator responsible for starting the ”fire” on the DOJ’s politicalization of that Department. It will bring down this White House and for that I will be forever grateful to the Senator.Â
Sen. Mark Pryor kick-started his 2008 re-election campaign with a $1.74 million fundraising haul during the first quarter of this year, a signal to possible foes that any challenge likely would get expensive.
Pryor’s campaign war chest stood at $2.07 million as of the end of March, according to a report to be filed this weekend with the Federal Election Commission.
The first-term Democrat has not drawn a challenger. Such early fundraising prowess may head off any credible opposition, experts said Thursday.
“For Arkansas, that’s a big number and it probably will scare away the faint-hearted,” said Jennifer Duffy, Senate editor for The Cook Political Report, a Washington newsletter that analyzes campaigns.
Pryor took in $800,000 in one event alone, his campaign kickoff fundraiser in Little Rock on March 8.
He reported raising $1.79 million during the quarter, including $1.74 million in contributions from individuals and political action committees.
