Pryor anger prompts questions to embattled AG
There’s a loving Christian song; It only takes a spark to get a fire going”, and the fall of Kings George’s empire may have been brought down by the spark our Senator Mark Pryor threw when Alberto Gonzales flat assed lied to him about Tim Griffen. Of all the crimes this adminstration will be found guilty of in the next few years, who would of thought the firing of 8 USA’s would be their downfall. Thank you Senator Pryor.
Senators said Thursday they took notice when Sen. Mark Pryor expressed out-of-character outrage over the Bush administration’s appointment of an interim federal prosecutor in Arkansas.
Pryor’s anger helped spark interest in how the Bush administration was handling U.S. attorneys, and was a factor leading to a key hearing Thursday where Attorney General Alberto Gonzales acknowledged he was trying to save his job.
Pryor, D-Ark., and many other Democrats have publicly demanded Gonzales resign as a result of the controversy surrounding the firings of eight U.S. attorneys, including H.E. “Bud” Cummins III in Little Rock.
During seven hours of Gonzales testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., added his voice to those of a handful of Republicans who seek the attorney general’s resignation.
Pryor’s “searing words” on the Senate floor last month - when he said Gonzales lied to him - prompted searing questions to the attorney general from Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.
“Everyone here knows Sen. Pryor is one of the more temperate members of the Senate,” Schumer said. “He is mild-mannered and his words are all the more striking for that reason.”
Pryor took Schumer’s words as a compliment.
