Sand Rant – Republican polls throw the baby under he bus

Dobson has declared that the Religious Right will not support Guiliani…period. Well that is interesting, since all the recent polls have Rudy leading the Republican pack, and that got me to thinking. If the Religious Right has such a grip on the Republican vote, then why does Giuliani continue to enjoy such a respectful lead?

Rudy is pro-choice, for gun control and has no real objection to protecting the rights of those who are in alternative lifestyles. The fact of the matter is, if this was any other time in our recent politically polarized history, Giuliani would be stoned to death by the collective Republican Party for even having the audacity of calling himself a Republican, let alone running as one. This week during the Republican debate, Giuliani laid out his campaign plan and he said it just as plain as day. In response to an attack by our very own Mike Huckabee on Giuliani’s pro-choice stance he said; “Republicans should be uniting” to defeat the Democrats, implored former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, rather than stressing their differences with one another.

There it was, no matter what his views are on abortion, the Republican’s must unite and defeat the Democrats because they cannot protect you and they cannot protect America. Giuliani is going protect us from the evil that lurks everywhere because he has been tested and has the experience. After all, he is the hero of 911 and who better to carry the burden that George W. Bush has with such success, than Rudy Giuliani.

Michael Goodwin from the Sacarmento Bee opines with this; Giuliani has been fudging his controversial positions lately, and he sacrificed more goodwill Thursday by blinking when he had a chance to declare his independence. He could have said what he said on CNN last February. “I am pro-choice, yes,” he told Larry King. The sky didn’t fall and, most important, he was true to who he is and what he believes. Americans expect that from their president.

IOIYR – Goodwin is saying, it’s ok if you’re Rudy.

So far, the Republican’s in general have fed into Giuliani’s shtick. But here is the most appauling aspect to the Republican’s acceptance of Giuliani. For almost three decades, the Republican Party has vilified anybody and any candidate that was pro-choice. That issue has been the centerpiece of their success, moving Christian soldiers and votes to the side of the “moral” party. And here today we are seeing that Party, the Christian right, the Moral Majority, the presumptive compass of our nation apparently voicing their choice. Yes, when it comes to their personal skins, and their personal sense of security, they will be happy to throw the baby under the bus. The sense of conviction and resolve concerning choice, was just an ends to a means and Guiliani’s candidacy exposes the Republican Party for what they are…cowards and two dollar whores.

There is another possibility: Perhaps the long right turn is over. You know we don’t see too many afro hairdos anymore, or bright yellow and white cars, remember those, the wide loud ties of the 80s are gone too. Porn is on the rise just like it has been. Times change and I sense the overwhelming security issue millions will be facing in 08-09 is whether they can get medical care when illness hits, and if they can afford it without filing bankruptcy. The Yellow, Orange, and Red alerts got security moms to the polls en masse in 04 but I think they’re ready for a brand new tube of toothpaste, a new style of sofa and NASCAR dads are ready for one more series of super-close shaving Gillette razors without an R endorsement. Most of that line-up at the R debate was old greying White Guys, like 1950 soda crackers and Betty Crocker cookies. It’s a new reality out there. So unless Herr Rove can package Yellow-Orange-Red fear in a new package, who needs what they’re offering? Got duct tape?

Tonight is prom night for Northside High in Fort Baptist. Some guys will take their long time sweetheart, some will have to wind up with any girl dumb enough to say yes. Some will stay home.

Whoever the Republicans pick to run in ‘08 will be the person dumb enough to say yes. Dead Ronald Reagan appears to be the best candidate they could choose, cause all they need is a name to throw into the ring and a dead man would be just fine because there is NO way they’ll win the election. Hell…the Democrats could probably run a dead man and beat the socks off Rudy or anyone else with an R behind their name.

This situation is very fitting since the Republicans have screwed up so bad there should be a bounty on them. Only the richest 1% and bondage freaks will vote Republican in the future. The rest of us should simmer down and work on clearing out the rat’s nest in the White House. In no way do those criminals deserve to finish out their disastrous term of office.

Since they’re ignoring all the laws they didn’t personally write for themselves, we’re probably going to have to march up there and pull them out by the hair. Suits me just fine, let me know when the caravan is leaving.

Rudy’s an ass….ain’t nothing for us to be wasting our beautiful minds on. Let the Impeachment Party get underway!
