Immigration Bill Looks Toward The Future
Well, another example of that things are changing in NWA. Here’s an editorial from the Morning News giving a reasonable response to the new immigration bill.Â
It is neither economically or logistically feasible to round up 12 million undocumented workers and deport them. So it makes sense to find ways to identify them and, for the ones willing to be productive citizens, allow them to do it. It also makes sense to stanch the tremendous flow of illegal immigrants into the country.
The Senate’s compromise plan purports to address both those issues. While it may not be a perfect plan, it is a starting point for meaningful and sustainable reform. This plan may or may not produce a positive result. But, at the moment, the American people can be sure of only one thing: If the far right or the far left kills this debate altogether, nothing will change. And no one wants that.
