Wow, another common sense, in your face, get a grip, moment for a NWA newspaper editorial. Here, they are talking about gay foster parents, the premier Republican “god squad” legislation that attempted to deny gays from being foster parents. The editorialist has it dead right, it’s about the kids not sexual orientation.

Here’s a couple of the money quotes:

 Chances are children living life in dire straights care less about an adult’s sexuality than knowing that the people helping to raise them are always going to love them, care for them, sacrifice for them, and generally give everything they know to give to make sure things work out. That ought to be the test about who becomes a foster parent in this state.

….

For those folks out there who fear someone’s homosexuality might “ rub off” on these kids, perhaps they should consider this: How many kids from so-called good, God-fearing families have emerged as homosexuals ? Was that the parents’ doing ?

What we’re saying, however, is that the contentious debate over that issue belongs in another venue, one that doesn’t use children as pawns.
