Boozman skirts Iraq…yet again

What is remarkable about this editoral in the NWA Dem Gaz is that it is critical of Boozman and his lock-step support of Iraq and Bush and it is penned by George Arnold. Those that visit here often know that Mr Arnold has his own history of lock-step support of all things Republican and Bush. Arnold takes this opportunity to question Boozman on Iraq and make some accurate observations. Four years late George, but better late than never.

The congressman visits

John Boozman said the evidence was fragmentary. He’ll be making another trip to Iraq while he’s on recess. It will be his sixth time to go there. He said he’s careful to get out of the Green Zone and is confident that he’s getting more than the official version of the war when he goes there. But he’ll be part of a small congressional delegation, and somebody else is making the travel arrangements on the ground. Others, most notably Jim Webb, the senator from Virginia and a combat veteran himself, refuse to take the tours of Iraq. Webb says they’re nothing more than dog-andpony shows to shore up support for a failing effort. I did take the opportunity to recommend that the congressman read Barbara Tuchman’s book, The March of Folly. I’d been struck by her account of our mistakes in Vietnam. Her observations from 20-some years ago were uncannily similar to how we’d made a mess of our involvement in Iraq. The congressman wrote down the title of the book. I hope he reads it.

Maybe I should of used the words fence sitting. Not sure which way to jump - conviction on the war not being the strong suit with NWA’s Congressman. You are for the war or against it - the way I see it, Boozman is waiting to see what would be politically expediant for him come September.

As long as reading material is being recommended, have the Congressman read the op-ed piece in WAPO Sunday about their experiences and observations out of the Green Zone since non of our Congress critters have had to venture out without an armed army.
