Huckabee the Rebel
Be careful what you wish for…the GOP seems to be having a little buyers remorse for its servitude to the religious right. Every election cycle they have chummed the waters with gay marriage, abortion, and immigration…you name it…anything to drive the religious base to the polls. When “their” candidate is elected…the base is collectively thrown under the bus on the very issues that brought them to the polls. But the religious right, with the emergence of one (Pastor) Mike Huckabee, may be poised to extract their very own pound of flesh from the GOP. E.J. Dionne over at the Washington Post explains…
If you had to bet, you’d wager that the Republican establishment will eventually crush Huckabee. But the rebellion he is leading is a warning to Republicans. The faithful are restive, tired of being used and no longer willing to do the bidding of a crowd that subordinates Main Street’s values to Wall Street’s interests.
