Immigration issue has far-reaching implications
Oh NO! This Op-Ed piece is in the Benton County Daily Record. Marks talks about one of the far-reaching implications and not oft addressed isssues concerning immigration and our desperate need for reform. This will get the sea of bigots wagging their tongues in Benton County this morning.
Think immigration is a cut-and dried issue ?
I know of a woman from Mexico who is a naturalized U. S. citizen. Her two children are native-born U. S. citizens, and she’s the caregiver for another child citizen; they’ve lived here their entire lives. So happens that her husband is here illegally.
Since the Acambaro raids, he’s not been able to find work, which many people will say is a good thing.
This hard-working woman’s takehome pay - from a full-time job - is approximately $ 1, 000 a month. Her rent is $ 750. When her husband was working, this family of U. S. citizens was able to make ends meet. Not so now.
What will she do ?
Sooner or later, she’s going to have to get on government assistance. She doesn’t want to be on it. She’s proud that she’s not had to do that.
