Sand Rant - McCain’s Wounded Psyche

Crossposted at DailyKos

I’ve been chewing on this for some time, but when I heard tweety (Chris Matthews) today say that history shows us that “men of war…who ascend to power tend to become men of peace” like Eisenhower.  I was compelled…no…. driven to put my thoughts down on why John McCain may be the worst thing that could happen to our country.

I am not a shrink or an academic who has spent a lifetime observing the human race. I however, have been an employer of 1,000’s of folks over the last 20 years, and I rely on my years of experience and sometimes my educated gut when I evaluate the character and motivators of a person and rarely have those instincts failed me.

First, I think McCain is a man of determination and good character, but that is not what makes my heart pound when I think of him being sworn in next January. It is his absolute belief that the war in Iraq was a good decision and that leaving would be a disaster for our country and our military.

This is my physco-babble evaluation of McCain for what it is worth.

McCain, who tragically spend 5-1/2 years as a prisoner of war watched his country surrender to North Vietnam. Yes, surrender, and I don’t think he is ever gotten over that, that although it was absolutely the right decision, McCain sacrificed 5-1/2 years of his life, coming home partially handicapped and scared emotionally…and for what…to cut and run, to lose? He did not come home the hero in a victorious war; he came home a hero for surviving 5-1/2 years of torture.

McCain will, in my humble opinion be a more dangerous “cowboy” than our current Chimpster in Chief is. He has been there, and a loss is unacceptable to him… right down to his very marrow.  We will be in Iraq for as long as it takes McCain to be able to stand up and declare victory, and it will have no semblance to the dog and pony show on an aircraft carrier. It will be a resounding victory, even if we have to flatten the country.  Lastly, it will be McCain’s victory, his legacy. I for one am in no mood to re-live the Vietnam War, particularly in the wounded psyche of a President.

Just one man’s opinion – have at it.
