If McCain and that’s a big if resigns from the Senate it won’t be because he needs to be on the campaign trail, this about not having to actually post a vote or be accountable for a vote that might not be palatable to the right…nothing more. By resigning, he’ll be able to hide his liberal leanings and not be required to show his cold mercenary heart for all to see.

Some comments yesterday from John McCain will do nothing to stop a rumor that’s been going around, that he plans to resign from the Senate in order to campaign for president full time, just as Bob Dole did in 1996.

Asked by the Arizona Republic whether this is true, McCain said that he has no plans to resign “right now,” but he was clearly leaving the door open:   (more here)
